May 18–Small Groups

Last small group chapel of the year. Students started by walking with their groups around the school outside, looking for metaphors of faith & spiritual growth. Students reflected on the past year and shared ideas for deepening their walk with God this summer in light of Hebrews 10:23-24: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”

May 20–Summer Challenge

For the first time this year, chapel was mobile. We were able to see into the construction area in the high school. After looking around, we turned our attention to Luke 6:48, about building your house on the rock. Students were specifically challenged to deepen their foundation in Jesus by being more intentional about when they go to bed and when they wake up. How can they use music, their body, drawing, listening/reading and other creative ideas to focus more on God during these important times in the day?

Some of the questions: what is a favorite memory from high school? what does leadership look like? how has God worked in your life in high school?

Through song, Love Awakens Me & You’re a Child of God, video and testimony (w/ Danielle interviewing Maike), we celebrated asian/pacific islander culture, honored God and were reminded how God calls us to be bridge builders.

May 6–Pastor Danny Cancel

Pastor Danny’s talk centered on the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 and our God-given ability to influence others. Here was the theme: we are called as believers in Jesus to influence this world. How? By being a witness and discipling others. This chapel laid out a great challenge to students—to live with God’s purpose guiding them.

Middle School Chapel

May 5–MS Praise Band

MS Praise Band blessed us with three songs: Jericho, Even if and Truth be Told. Mr. Wiener then spoke about James 1:19, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” By dressing up in funny outfits, he emphasized that we need to value others and learn from others by listening, not making snap judgments.

April 27–Faith Church Worship Band

Faith CRC Worship Band. All the seniors were invited across the street to Faith’s sanctuary. Their band led us in worship. They are good! I had goose bumps when they began. We sang Joyful—the One Who Saves, O Come to the Altar, Who You Say I Am, Because of Your Love, Your Grace is Enough and The Blessing.

April 29–Small Groups

The last time for the seniors (all the “lasts” for seniors is starting!). The groups began with an activity that involved personally encouraging each other in the group. The focus of the Bible passages and questions was on our relationship with God in prayer and our call to bless our human relationships with encouragement.

Middle School Chapel

April 14–Prayer

Similar to the high school prayer chapel last week, this was the most interactive chapel of the year. This chapel involved various types of prayer and Scripture reading that included intentional use of hands and body posture. Students in the auditorium and in the classroom were invited to stand, sit on a chair and even sit on the floor. They placed their hands over their heart, rested their open hands on their lap and raised their hands. What a wonderful time of prayer!

April 20–Matea & the HS Choir

Senior, Matea Cummings, spoke on a message that has been on her heart for a long time: influence. All of us influence others. God is calling us to use our influence to build God’s kingdom. We are in a spiritual battle. We must all embrace our call to be used by God! We were also blessed by two numbers from the choir.

April 22–Prayer Chapel

Most interactive chapel of the year. This student led chapel involved various types of prayer and Scripture reading that included the intentional use of hands and body posture. Students in the auditorium and in the classroom were invited to stand, sit on a chair and even sit on the floor. They placed their hands over their heart, rested their open hands on their lap and raised their hands. What a wonderful time of prayer!

April 6–Ryan Anderson

Ryan is a Moody Bible Institute senior. He spoke from Proverbs 2:1-6. We can be consumed with what decisions we need to make, what is God’s will, and who am I? Ryan’s key point: Obedience is your best revelation. First and foremost obey God and take one step in front of another.

April 8–I am Second videos

We watched two videos that highlighted the power of God’s redemption in Jesus Christ and the beautiful consequences that result from putting Jesus first in your life. We watched the videos Crooked Cop and Tony Dungy. If you are not aware of this website that features loads of amazing videos of testimonies of faith in Jesus, check it out! iamsecond.com

Middle School Chapel

April 7–Andy Pasek

Andy spoke on the famous “love chapter”—1 Corinthians 13. Verse 13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” In faith we trust and believe in God. In hope we know that God will grow us. And love is the bond that we share with God. As Andy likes to say, “You are loved by the one true God so that you can share a relationship with God.”

March 16–Mike Romano

Mike is a 2004 TCHS grad. He shared that, although he grew up in the church, in high school he kept wondering if he was good enough for God to accept him. The beauty, power and truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ flooded into his life as a young adult. Mike spoke with conviction about the need to embrace the free gift of salvation. God accepts us on the basis of what Jesus has done for us, not on what we have done.

March 11–Persecuted Church

The chamber choir blessed us by opening chapel. Then students planned and led a chapel focused on the persecuted church. They highlighted the countries of Central African Republic, Nigeria, Sudan and North Korea. Chapel concluded with Scripture and a time of prayer for our suffering brothers & sisters.

March 17–Al Heerema

Al went to Timothy in Cicero and then in Elmhurst. He now has 12 grandkids and continues to be a big fan of TCS! He shared about his own life and the story of Jesus & the Samaritan woman. March 4–Hebrews 10:19-24–Mr. Wiener & TCHS Students

This chapel had a lot of variety: Bethany sang, Shelby prayed and Alexandra, Luke & Sarah shared/read Scripture. Mr. Wiener preached on Hebrews 10:19-24: Location—Longing—Living. When we trust in Jesus as our sacrifice and high priest, when we live in hope and spur one another on to greater godliness, we then draw near to God. We then realize that the best place to be is in God’s presence!

February 25–Bridge Builders: Tyran Laws

We were blessed by the ministry of Tyran Laws who traveled up to Timothy from the South Side! He spoke from James 2. We are called by God to live out our faith by accepting one another, not just on a personal level, but also as members of a community/society.

Middle School Chapel

February 17–Dan Quist

His text was II Corinthians 4:1-6. His message? Because of sin in this world, we have a veil over our eyes. It's difficult for us to see the full image of God until we get to heaven. In the meantime, it's important for us to look for those ways God reveals himself to us, even though it may be blurry.

He took us back to the Old Testament roots of the passage. He then called students to commit their lives to Jesus and challenged them to be a leader by influencing others through godliness and service.
