Small Groups, VanderWal, the Gospel

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL

Tuesday: The small-group chapel had a focus on community/working together. In addition to talking, reading Scripture (1Thessalonians 5:14–15 & Romans 12:12–16) and praying, there was a little "creative project". Check out the video!

Thursday: Our speaker was a TCHS 2002 alum, and he is currently a pastor at The Compass Church in Naperville. Dan VanderWal spoke about "getting busted". If you were on trial, would there be enough evidence to convict you of being a disciple of Jesus?

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

Mr. Wiener presented what it means to have faith and the importance of a genuine faith commitment to Jesus during the middle school years. Thanks to the students who helped and especially to Adrian for his during trust fall!

"Good Friday" Chapels & Chapel Band

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL

Tuesday: The chapel band led in singing for the last time this year. They did a great job this year–so committed to worship and musical excellence. Some of the songs they led were Build Your Kingdom Here, Beautiful Things and How Great is Our God. We ended with the Doxology.

Thursday: "Good Friday" chapel. Chapel opened with a video, Falling Plates, http://youtu.be/08peJK0m510. Students read the story of Jesus' crucifixion, and we sang When I Survey the Wondrous Cross led by Jenny and Alex on the piano. Mr. W. Introduced our time of confession and prayer. What we "survey" in life, or focus our attention on, affects everything. We are called to fix our eyes on Jesus. Students came forward to pick up a piece of torn black paper and spend time in confession. Then they were invited to the cross to leave the paper there and pick up a white cord that represented forgiveness and acceptance by God. The cord could be tied on the wrist to be a visual reminder of what Jesus accomplished for us. It was a holy time of prayer in the auditorium.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

"Good Friday" chapel. We opened with an oboe trio (Dan, Emily, Olivia). The high school chapel band led the singing. We then had a special musical number. Mrs. Gunn sang with her daughters, Majesty and Grace, I am Redeemed–such a worshipful song about God's love for us. Next John, Carleigh and Val read the story of Jesus' crucifixion. For our prayer-time, students came forward to pick up a torn black piece of paper to represent their sin. They were invited to pray, leave the paper at the cross and then pick up a white piece of paper that was printed with the word "FORGIVEN". The students rose to the occasion, and participated with reverence. A great chapel!

Turner, Oksnavad, Mackenzie & Amanda

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL

Tuesday: Pastor Jason Turner, from Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church at North & York in Elmhurst, spoke. He pointed us to Jesus. His love for us, expressed through his life, death & resurrection, is powerful and personal. In response to that love, we are called to live as sacrificial disciples of Jesus Christ. Pastor Jason's talk was upbeat, engaging and convicting.

Thursday: Roy Oksnavad, director of the Muslim Ministry Program at Wheaton College, shared about the movement of God among Muslims in the world. With lots of research and a heart for the Muslim world, he shared how Muslims are coming to Christ. In fact the large number of Muslims turning to Jesus in our day is historically unprecedented. Roy challenged students to be a witness for Jesus in our world, especially to Muslims.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

Mackenzie and Amanda spoke to the middle school about their mission trips to Haiti. This was a repeat presentation from their March 18 high school chapel. Their talk was not only interesting, it also encouraged the students to get on of their comfort zone and bear witness to the kingdom of God.
