Jake Roberts

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

Jake Roberts, an intern from the Christian Church of Clarendon Hills, spoke. He began by referencing famous movies and asking what is it about stories that fascinate us. He then moved to a parable Jesus used from Luke 18: the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. Do not look down on others. The quality God looks for in his children is humility. This affects our relationship with God and others.

Small Groups, Melvin Kim, Mr. Ridder's Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL

Tuesday: Small groups met with a focus on the cross of Christ. Some of the questions that the students discussed were "what does the cross of Christ mean to you?" and "currently, what area of your life do you need Jesus the most?".

Thursday: Melvin Kim, former youth pastor at Faith CRC, led us in a creative, outside the box chapel. Through an improv exercise with 4 students and a teacher, he explained the parallels of improv and the Christian faith. To watch the chapel: http://thecube.com/event/chapel-3-19-478747

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

Mr. Ridders homeroom led us with the creative reading of a Max Lucado story: The Song of the King. In a medieval setting, the story creatively and powerful communicates the need to follow Jesus in a world with so many voices calling out for our attention.

Cunningham, Mitchell, VanDenBurg Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL

Tuesday: We were priveldged to have Paige Cunningham with us. She is the executive director of the Center for Boiethics and Human Dignity at Trinity International University. She spoke about the scientific evidence for understanding the human embryo as a person. But in addition to the science, she encouraged us to remember that God knows, loves and values each one of us.

Thursday: Mr. Mitchell led chapel. He shared his heart about what he most desires for students from a spiritual perspective. His talk centered around relationships. Students were challenged to invest in their relationship with God, establish supportive relationships in the Timothy community, and be a blessing to others outside the TC community.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

Ms. VanDenBerg's homeroom led chapel. Since this chapel was during 2nd hour on Friday, I was not able to be there (but I heard it was great!). I did speak in the K-6 chapel earlier that morning. Below is a video of some singing during the elementary school chapel.
