Faber, Prayer, Sytsma Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: Bob Faber, of Salt Ventures, was with us. He is a missionary in Bulgaria and is involved in ministry in the entire Balkan region. He seeks to share the gospel by first working with towns to offer a service that is needed. Once the ministry is a blessing and respected, then doors are open for evangelism. If you would like to watch the chapel CLICK HERE

Thursday: A chapel of seeking God and prayer. Teachers left the auditorium and prayed for the students. Students were encouraged to come to the front and write on a post-it note one or two words describing hurt in their lives. Then they put the notes on our "prayer board" with the title, "In our pain...we look to Jesus". Students spread out in the auditorium to pray alone or in groups. There was also an open mic for students to share a prayer, testimony or word of encouragement.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Thursday: Mrs. Sytsma's homeroom led chapel. After we sang Build Your Kingdom Here and I Will Follow, we heard about the history and meaning of Ash Wednesday. The students read and acted out the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Then Mrs. Sytsma challenged us to think about how we treat others. Chapel concluded with a time of confession and prayer. Students came forward to receive a cross on their hand (with "art charcoal").

Liza Bulthuis, Janna Piersma, HS leads MS

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: We welcomed a special guest, Liza Bulthuis, TC '92 grad. She came to share her journey with the students. Liza explained the pain she experienced growing up and her faith in Jesus Christ. Her humble honesty touched everyone, and her hope in Jesus through such difficulty was inspiring. Liza’s testimony also powerfully showed students that whatever pain and struggle they are going through, they need to seek Jesus in the context of Christian community. Liza is the one in the "coral" blouse in the photo below.

Thursday: Mr. Huizinga set the stage for this chapel dealing with mental health. Mrs. Piersma was our speaker. She spoke about mental illness among teens: most common diagnoses, warning signs, misconceptions and community building practices. Chapel concluded with a time of prayer and challenge to be honest and hopeful. Numerous students stayed after chapel to pray. To watch the chapel CLICK HERE

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Thursday: The high school chapel team led chapel. Andy M. opened in prayer. Rachel R. shared her dramatic “spoken word” on sin & grace. After singing, the students performed a skit based on Micah 6:8. Then Josh & Ali led the middle schoolers in reciting Micah 6:8 with enthusiasm. Finally, five students (Stephanie, Ellie, Andy, Kohl & Joe) spoke about what Micah 6:8 means to them. Great chapel!
