Lots of Singing, "Good Friday" Chapel & Mr. Schutte's Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: The chapel band led us. We sang Unstoppable God, Lead Me to the Cross, Amazing Grace and Spirit of the Living God. To watch the chapel, CLICK HERE

Thursday: Our annual "Good Friday" chapel. The chamber choir led us in singing When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. Justin read the crucifixion story. Miss Mercedes shared about the importance of the cross. Eight students, freshmen through senior, prayed prayers of confession. Then all were called to seek God through repentance and accepting forgiveness. Students were encouraged to come forward, put their thumb on an ink pad and then press their thumb on our wooden cross. Jesus died for them. They are forgiven!

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Wednesday: We started off with an all-student worship band. Wow, they were good! They led us in singing This is Amazing Grace, Mighty to Save and Love the Lord Your God. Mr. Schutte's homeroom led chapel. The theme was on sacrificial giving, based on the story of the “widow’s offering” in Mark 12. How is God calling each of us to sacrifice for Jesus?

Small Group Contest, Brian Page, Pastor Lobatos

High School Chapels
Tuesday: Small group chapel with a twist. Each group was challenged to create a nativity scene. The best scenes would receive a prize of chocolate chip cookies for our next meeting. Enjoy the video!

Thursday: Brian Page was our speaker. Mr. Wiener met him at a tennis tournament this fall during a match between Timothy & Chicago Christian. Mr. Page is a corporate chaplain with a background in finance. His talk was on faithfully following Jesus, using an ax as a metaphor. Is our ax sharpened to do God's work?

Middle School Chapel
Wednesday: Myah's dad, Pastor Lobatos, spoke. He is a pastor at the Christian Church of Clarendon Hills. He shared his amazing testimony. Students were definitely "locked in" to his message. He emphasized that God desires to each of us for his glory.

Mr. Boven, Hymn Chapel, VanDenBerg Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: Former TC teacher, Mr. Boven, blessed us with a talk on the Biblical perspective of work: God created us to work. God can use setbacks in work to bring triumph. Where you are is no accident. Don’t let your work become your identity. To watch the chapel, CLICK HERE

Thursday: Our 2nd hymn chapel of the year. Each hymn was introduced with Scripture. Mr. Wiener and his daughter sang a duet. The hymns were Praise to the Lord, the Almighty; Holy, Holy, Holy; And Can It Be; My Jesus, I Love Thee and To God Be the Glory. Thanks to Alex Z. for a beautiful prelude and accompanying the singing.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Wednesday: Ms. VanDenBerg's homeroom led chapel. Comparing our lives to others - and focusing on the blessings God gives to others rather than the blessings he gives to ourselves - can steal our joy. As Christians we know and believe that God is good, faithful, and that He has a great plan for our lives. By trusting in Him we can live lives of gratitude and contentment.

Faber, Prayer, Sytsma Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: Bob Faber, of Salt Ventures, was with us. He is a missionary in Bulgaria and is involved in ministry in the entire Balkan region. He seeks to share the gospel by first working with towns to offer a service that is needed. Once the ministry is a blessing and respected, then doors are open for evangelism. If you would like to watch the chapel CLICK HERE

Thursday: A chapel of seeking God and prayer. Teachers left the auditorium and prayed for the students. Students were encouraged to come to the front and write on a post-it note one or two words describing hurt in their lives. Then they put the notes on our "prayer board" with the title, "In our pain...we look to Jesus". Students spread out in the auditorium to pray alone or in groups. There was also an open mic for students to share a prayer, testimony or word of encouragement.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Thursday: Mrs. Sytsma's homeroom led chapel. After we sang Build Your Kingdom Here and I Will Follow, we heard about the history and meaning of Ash Wednesday. The students read and acted out the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Then Mrs. Sytsma challenged us to think about how we treat others. Chapel concluded with a time of confession and prayer. Students came forward to receive a cross on their hand (with "art charcoal").

Liza Bulthuis, Janna Piersma, HS leads MS

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: We welcomed a special guest, Liza Bulthuis, TC '92 grad. She came to share her journey with the students. Liza explained the pain she experienced growing up and her faith in Jesus Christ. Her humble honesty touched everyone, and her hope in Jesus through such difficulty was inspiring. Liza’s testimony also powerfully showed students that whatever pain and struggle they are going through, they need to seek Jesus in the context of Christian community. Liza is the one in the "coral" blouse in the photo below.

Thursday: Mr. Huizinga set the stage for this chapel dealing with mental health. Mrs. Piersma was our speaker. She spoke about mental illness among teens: most common diagnoses, warning signs, misconceptions and community building practices. Chapel concluded with a time of prayer and challenge to be honest and hopeful. Numerous students stayed after chapel to pray. To watch the chapel CLICK HERE

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Thursday: The high school chapel team led chapel. Andy M. opened in prayer. Rachel R. shared her dramatic “spoken word” on sin & grace. After singing, the students performed a skit based on Micah 6:8. Then Josh & Ali led the middle schoolers in reciting Micah 6:8 with enthusiasm. Finally, five students (Stephanie, Ellie, Andy, Kohl & Joe) spoke about what Micah 6:8 means to them. Great chapel!
