Mitchell, Songs & Prayer, 1st MS Chapel

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPELS
Tuesday: Our principal, Mr. Mitchell, spoke. His talk focused on our theme verse for the year, Micah 6:8, "...And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." With clarity and conviction, he simply explained what this verse means and how we can apply it to our lives. Watch the whole talk here: Tuesday's Chapel

Thursday: Mr. Davidson opened chapel with encouraging and challenging words from our year's theme verse. Nate and Andrew led us in two songs of worship. We were also blessed by three moms from the Moms in Prayer group that meets every Friday to intercede for the school. Mrs. Venhousen, Mrs. Mattox, Mrs. Stefanik each prayed and then in unison prayed a Scriptural blessing over us. Watch the whole chapel here: Thursday's Chapel

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Wednesday: We had a mixer game where each 8th grade homeroom introduced themselves to a 7th grade homeroom. There was one 7th grader in each homeroom with a dollar. The first 8th grader to introduce themselves to that student won the prize. Mr. Lundeen was back with us leading our singing time. Finally Mr. Wiener went through the top 10 list of what every middle schooler needs to know.

First High School Chapel of 2015-16

THURSDAY

After a "mixer activity", two students shared summer testimonies of faith. Ellie shared about how God's Word challenged her this summer. Through meditating on Isaiah 40, she grew in her awe of God's greatness and holiness. Joshua spoke about spending a day at the hospital where his mom works and how he ended up talking to someone about faith in Jesus Christ. The person asked for a Bible and he searched the hospital to find one for her (he found free Bibles at the chapel).

Mr. Wiener showed some tree pictures (of course). He made the point that flourishing trees are well rooted. He challenged students to focus on roots based on Jesus Christ, not roots based on feelings. Jesus is the strong foundation for our lives!

We ended with prayer. Alex played the piano while we prayed silently, and Mr. Wiener concluded the chapel with a prayer of blessing on the new school year.

Senior Chapel, Middle School Transitions, Orchestra

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL
Tuesday: We had an orchestra assembly instead of chapel. A special thank you to Ms. Salvatori for the many years she led the orchestra with beautiful music. Enjoy the video.

Thursday: Today was our yearly tradition: Senior Chapel. After Melanie Z. played a piano prelude, His Eye is on the Sparrow, all seniors sat down in front on the stage. We watched the "Senior Movie" made by Cassidy B. Our closing prayer involved the teachers forming a circle around the seniors. Mr. Boven, Mrs. David and Mr. Hartgerink prayed for the seniors. What a wonderful time of Christian community and blessings on the Class of 2015!

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL
Wednesday: We welcomed the 6th graders to our chapel! Ms. Strauss led the chapel on a very appropriate theme for this time of year: transitions. She, along with Mrs. Dyke and Mr. Peterson, shared part of their journey, and how we need to trust in God through great changes in life.

Mr. Boven, Small Groups, Mr. VanderBill's Homeroom

HIGH SCHOOL
Tuesday: Mr. Boven spoke. He volunteers to speak in chapel every year and is a favorite with the students. His theme? "You Are a Masterpiece...Created in God's Image." Click here to view the chapel: http://thecube.com/event/chapel-5-5-497065

Thursday: Our last small group chapel of the year. For fun, groups were challenged to come up with a unique pose or video of their group. We read from Philippians 3:7-10. Some questions asked: "What is a spiritual goal you have for this summer?" and "What is a prayer request you have for this summer?". Next week there will be a video of the small groups!

MIDDLE SCHOOL
Wednesday: Mr. VanderBill and his homeroom led us. The chapel was a great challenge to stay connected with Jesus this summer. Mr. VanderBill showed and shared what he needs to bring with him on a summer backpacking trip. Just like preparing to go on trips, we need to prepare ourselves spiritually in order to live for Jesus. Numerous students shared how God is challenging them to be more committed to Jesus (really good testimonies from 7th graders!).

Amy Liss & Faith CRC Worship Band

TC CHAPELS
HIGH SCHOOL Tuesday: Amy Liss, a young woman with cerebral palsy, spoke. She is confined to a wheelchair and yet does not let her physical limitations define her. Her talk was touching and meaningful and sprinkled with humor. Her faith in God, desire for serving others and "attitude of gratitude" made an impact on all of us. Currently, she is the relationship coordinator for the Villa Park Easter Seals office, serves in a local elementary school and has numerous public speaking opportunities. Watch the chapel: http://thecube.com/event/chapel-4-28-494027
