December 8–Mr. Pelt’s family & the Christmas story

Mr. Pelt and his children gave us a window into their home. During Advent for family devotions, Mr. Pelt tells Bible stories that point to Jesus using little figurines. Then as Mr. Snoeyink read the Christmas story from Luke 2, high school students displayed the scenes with a shadow box.

December 10–Chapel Band & Chamber Choir: Christmas music

With advent expectation, the Chamber Choir led us in worship with O Come, O Come Emmanuel and Mary, Did You Know?. The Chapel Band celebrated the joy of Christmas with O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.

December 9–Mrs. Schwarz, Mrs. VanStee, Mrs. Piersma

These three TC staff members dedicate their lives to blessing students. How can students live well in these anxious times? Trust in Jesus, follow his Word and practice godly wisdom! They explained what this means for the life of a student.

Next Week: Merry Christmas! Have a blessed and joyous Christmas and New Year!

December 1–Small Groups

Our focus was on Christmas giving and loving. Students discussed how to reflect God’s love by looking at 1 Corinthians 13. Then students put love into action by writing an encouraging letter to someone.

December 3–Mr. Lindloff

Mr. Lindloff began by highlighting a common expression in our culture: follow your heart. He spoke of the Biblical view of life—live with hope and follow Jesus! The ending challenge: “most important, may we have the courage to follow Jesus and see his kingdom come. Everything else is secondary.”

Middle School Chapel

December 2–Mr. Davidson

Mr. Davidson spoke about the importance of a foundation. Just as buildings need a good foundation, we need a strong foundation in Jesus Christ. He also explained about how the school was blessed to have a high school remodel this summer, which the middle school students can look forward to!

The chapel band led in worship with God so Loved, This is Amazing Grace  and Holy Water. Between the songs we read Psalm 100 responsively, watched a video of students offering thanks, and opened up the mic for students in the auditorium to give thanks.

Some questions: How is it hard to live out gentleness? What are you anxious about? What would your life look like/how would it be changed if God’s peace flooded into you?

Nothing to do with chapel. Just two sugar maple trees near my house:

  • THEME OF THE WEEK: BRIDGE BUILDING. HOW DO WE RESOND AS CHRISTIAN DISCIPLES TO THE RACIAL TENSIONS IN THE U.S.? HOW CAN WE BUILD BETTER TC COMMUNITY?
  • Special Note: the chapel usually starts 2-4 minutes from when the live-stream begins

Sept. 28: Teacher Panel

Eight teachers shared how they have been challenged to better honor God and love people in light of current race issues. Their personal challenge led to heart-felt challenges to the student body. Thanks to Mrs. Piersma, Mr. Huizinga, Mrs. Fox, Mr. Whartnaby, Mr. Snoeyink, Mr. Barker, Mrs. Garcia, Mr. Lindloff.

Sept. 24–Moms Panel

The moms had a honest discussion that dealt with issues such as unconscious racial bias, worry about my kids safety, and overt racism. Thanks to Mrs. Dorsey (who organized & moderated the panel), Mrs. Vea, Mrs. Cruz, Mrs. Champagne and Mrs. Cummings.

Sept. 30–Reggie Champagne (both middle school & high school chapel)

Reggie Champagne—TC dad, corporate lawyer, speaker—blessed us with a message centered on Matthew 22:15-22, along with other teachings of Jesus. After highlighting Biblical principles, he shared practical ways to love God, love people, pursue justice and even engage in the political process as Christians.

Oct. 1–Small Groups

This was the most serious small group time of the year. Students were challenged to share openly, honestly and with Christian love. They discussed the past three chapels and racial discrimination in general.

Oct. 2–Student Panel

We closed our week with 10 students on a panel, moderated by Mrs. Garcia. These students took the risk to share in front of their peers. They shared stories and gave us a window into their hearts. The TC community is a special place, but there is still work to be done. We must still deal with uncomfortable issues while we thank God for our togetherness in Jesus.
